Fun facts about crystal fixture · Man has fabricated glass for over 5500 years. · A Frenchman, Bernard Perrot, was the first to cast prisms from glass instead of cutting them out of rock crystal. · Chandeliers made with brass frame can never rust. A brass chandelier can be repaired. · Many chandeliers are manufactured in Asia and made of gold clad unknown metal components. These metal parts cannot be repaired. · The "Bohemian method" involves heating glass rods almost to the melting point, and then molding the glass into different shapes. · Hand-polished prisms are never exactly alike, since each prism is basically hand made. · The method of attaching prisms to a frame is called “binding”. · To bind the crystal prisms with individual brass threads is so unusual today, that it is called “Swedish binding” internationally. The process is slow but it basically guarantees that the prisms will not fall off during cleaning or when the chandelier is moved. · A cheaper way to bind crystal prisms is to use nail-head pins or clips. This is not a very safe way of attaching the prisms. · The easiest way to clean your crystal chandelier is to use a spray-on chandelier cleaner. Simply spray it on and let it drip-dry on a towel or newspaper to spotless shine without wiping. These spray cleaners can be found in Home Improvement Stores and Lighting Stores. Some of the brand names are “Sparkle Plenty” “ExtendAFinish” and “Portfolio”.
